Welcome by Jae Storer
One of the things I like about zines, is the variety of subjects they take in.
Holidays, visits to particular places & road trips are some of the favourite things to make a zine about.
These type of zines allow you to live vicariously through them.
This next zine, I found on a Facebook group, with a link to the shop to buy it.
Welcome by Jae Storer
The images in this zine are from a 21 day road trip throughout the West coast of America.
The zine is A5 in size, has 44 pages with a total of 43 images. All the images are in Black & White and my copy is number 28 of 79. A lot of the images have an Americana vibe to them, flags, wide open spaces and Motel signs, this isn't a bad thing as it is America after all.
I like the way the room key card holder is used as the front cover and there are some images that really intrigued me and I wanted to know about them.
This is where my first little niggle comes in, there is no text within the zine. On the shop page to buy the zine, is a whole explanation of what the zine is about and personally I would have liked to see some of this in the zine, just so the viewer has context to what they are looking at.
The second is that the zine is printed on silk paper, 300gsm for the cover and 130gsm for the inner pages. I have to say, here and now that I’m not a fan of silk paper. I feel it's not a good paper stock to show off images and feel it tends to make the images look lacklustre, of course this is only my personal opinions.
Other than those two little things, I think this is a great zine, with interesting images.
The cost of the zine is £5 + £2.50 p&p and can be picked up here.
