This time I have three zines to review all from the same stable.
I met the owner and zine maker of Livor Mortis Zine at a recent zine fair.
These zines are not going to be everyone's cup of tea but for me I have a morbid interest in cemeteries and gravestones.
LMZ specialises in cemetery photography, especially some of the old Victorian ones, like Highgate and Brompton and cemeteries abroad.
#12 El Bimbo & #16 Midian (tribes of the moon)
The two cemetery zines I have are #12 El Bimbo and #16 Midian (Tribes of the moon). Both are A5 in size and contain 40 pages with Black & White images, although #16 does have a pink cover. #12 concentrates on London cemeteries and shows the grandeur of these final resting places, images also show the decay of some of these places.
#16 is more of the same, only this time there are some notable graves and memorials here from around the country. I won't give away who these are, in case you decide to buy a copy.
Both zines also have a couple of pages which details the cemeteries visited along with news of what LMZ has been watching and listening to, along side news that is happening in the zine world. There is also a letters (email) page from people who have bought the zines.
The final zine is still a cemetery zine only this time one for pets. The zine is again A5 in size, mainly Black & White images but with a full colour cover and 36 pages.
This cemetery is in Paris and was built in 1899, after a law was past to stop people disposing of their pets in the River Seine.
There are some interesting images in this zine and it shows the lengths that some people go to, to remember their pets.
There are over 40,000 animals buried in the cemetery and some were famous in their lifetime.
It is hard to comprehend the size of this cemetery but a map is also printed in the zine.
I only actually bought the pet sematary zine which I think was £4. Midian was acquired in the age old tradition of a zine swap for a copy of my Memento Mori zine and El Bimbo was kindly sent to me by LMZ after I mentioned I was trying to get a copy but it was out of print.
I really enjoyed these three zines and think they make a good addition to any zine collection.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’m going to have to check these zines out, especially the Pet Semetary as I never knew about it 😁
